Did you make any resolutions for 2010? Will you be skinnier, smarter, richer, or more famous? Above all of those things, did you resolve to glorify God more in your life in 2010 than you did in 2009?
Some of you may be familiar with The Resolutions of Jonathan Edwards. It was a list of 70 things that Jonathan Edwards resolved to do in order to fulfill his purpose of bringing glory to God. Here's a taste of the first of those resolutions:
Being sensible that I am unable to do any thing without God’s help, I do humbly entreat him, by his grace, to enable me to keep these Resolutions, so far as they are agreeable to his will, for Christ’s sake.
1. Resolved, That I will do whatsoever I think to be most to the glory of God, and my own good, profit, and pleasure, in the whole of my duration; without any consideration of the time, whether now, or never so many myriads of ages hence. Resolved, to do whatever I think to be my duty, and most for the good and advantage of mankind in general. Resolved, so to do, whatever difficulties I meet with, how many soever, and how great soever.
What will you do to bring more glory to God this year? Here are some suggestions:
1. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
If you haven't done this and would like to, check out some information here.
2. Grow in your study of the Word
Many of you may have decided to discipline yourself in Bible reading and devotions. Here are some sites that may be helpful:
You may even consider joining a bible study! Getting together with othes to study the Word helps keep you accountable and encouraged. Some of us attend BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) an international Bible study with classes all over the world.
There are a ton of Bible study books you can use on your own. Email us to find out more!
3. Serve!
There are currently a few service opportunities available at Connections:
- After-Service Fellowship: Grace needs your help in organizing and contributing snacks to the fellowship.
- Ushering: We need a few more ushers in 2010. You'll be assigned to usher about once a month.
- Newsletter: Enway is always in need to creative minds and writers. The newsletter helps to keep the group informed about various events and is a great way for visitors to find out what's happening. See the first edition of the newsletter here.
There are also opportunities within Charis itself, so if you're willing and available, we have a spot for you!
Whatever you resolve to do, make sure you share it with someone so they can keep you accountable. Feel free to post it in a comment here or on our Facebook page.
Have a great new year!
