Making a list

It never fails that after Santa makes his list and checks it twice, we begin to make our list of new year's resolutions. It also never fails that the list is nearly identical to the one we made the year before. So this time around - make a new list!

If you were there to hear Pastor John's message: Security in the New Year, he encouraged us to make a list of things about this past year. (If you missed it, click on the link to hear the message or download the notes.) Make a list of things that you are thankful for in 2009. If you have yet to give thanks to God for those things - do it now! Or, make a list of tough situations you experienced in 2009 and reflect on how God carried (or is carrying) you through it. Remember to give him thanks!

The goal is to see how God is good so that, if and when things go awry in 2010, you'll have a tangible reminder of just how good our God is. We pray that you'll keep these verses from Psalm 34 on your heart as we face the new year together.

1 I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

3 Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.

8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
